During the life of Christ, there were many of these spiritual gifts granted to the saints of that time. Now that Christ's church is once again established on the earth, we believe that those same spiritual gifts are given to us now, just as they were then. The Savior said these spiritual gifts "are given for the benefit of those who love me and keep all my commandments, and him that seeketh so to do; that all may be benefited" (D&C 46:9).
Many people in their lives get to experience some of these gifts from God. Missionaries throughout the world experience the gift of tongues when they have to learn a new language to speak to the people in a particular country. I have had friends who are learning a new language and feel like they aren't the most fluent, but at times when they have been teaching a lesson, the Lord loosed their tongue and they were able to speak the language with ease and the people were able to understand them. Then after the lesson, they had no clue how they were able to speak so fluently like they did, they only knew it was the Holy Spirit speaking through them. Also prophets receive revelation from God and communicate with Him so the prophets in return can communicate what God wants for us. Also, prophets have seen visions to know the will of God as well. Many many miracles of healing have been witnessed in the lives of people through the power of faith and authority of the priesthood. God is the same yesterday, today, and forever, so why would He stop bestowing these wonderful spiritual gifts upon His children? The Lord told Joseph Smith that, "...all these gifts come from God for the benefit of the children of God" (D&C 46:26). God loves each and every one of us and He continues to make many wonderful miracles happen to His children through the gifts of the Spirit.
