Before the world was created, our loving Heavenly Father gave each of us the freedom to choose for ourselves. Our country, the United States of America, was established on the basic principles of freedom. Our founding fathers each felt that it was inhumane to force people to do certain things. The first Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, says that we are entitled to freedom, even the freedom of religion. We as Latter-Day Saints, fully support and agree with this principle. We not only believe that everyone has the freedom to worship how they want, but we also believe that we all should defend and stand up for each others beliefs, even if we don't necessarily agree with what they believe. We believe in protecting one anothers' rights despite the differences between us. It is our responsibility as Latter-Day Saints to protect one anothers' beliefs and rights.
Elder M. Russell Ballard explains it best it his book Our Search for Happiness concerning why we as Latter-Day Saints try to convert people to our religion if we believe in helping others preserve their beliefs. He states the following, "...you might wonder why we Latter-Day Saints expend so much energy in trying to convert others to our way of thinking and worshipping. Please understand that it isn't because we don't believe others have the right to worship as they choose, because they most certainly do. But part of what we believe includes a divine commission to share our faith-and the joy and peace we have found within it-with others.
"And I give unto you a commandment that you shall teach one another the doctrine of the kingdom," the Lord said through the Prophet Joseph Smith.
"Behold, I sent you out to testify and warn the people, and it becometh every man who hath been warned to warn his neighbor" (D&C 88: 81).
"And so we share our beliefs as a voice of warning, to all people, and invite them to "come unto Christ, and be perfected in him" (Moroni 10: 32). But as always, it's up to them whether they choose to respond to that warning and invitation."
Now, I hope I got that off clearly enough to understand. But I just know that everyone has their own personal freedom to worship how they may. We as Latter-Day Saints, believe in worshipping Almighty God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ. Worshipping God and Jesus Christ will bring countless blessings in our lives because They will see that we are willing to follow Them and Their commandments. I know that by worshipping God and Jesus Christ with the utmost respect They deserve, then They will help make our lives better and easier.
